Selecting A Weed Control Product:

Quick Reference

1. CLASSIFY THE WEED:

  • Emersed - Growing in shallow water with leaves or stems above the water.
  • Submersed - Growing in deeper water entirely below the surface.
  • Floating - Growing unattached or rooted with floating leaves.
  • Algae - Cellular, lower weed form. No distinguishable stem or leaf. Commonly called moss or scum.

2. DETERMINE SPECIFIC WEEDS

Our Weed Chart can help identify common aquatic weeds throughout the country. Place your weed in a clear glass jar with water and compare it to the pictures. Pay careful attention to the leaves. (It's really not that difficult!)

3. SELECT A PRODUCT:

Our reference table showing what product(s) controls what weed(s). Look up your weed(s) to determine which product(s) to use. Read the product information to confirm that the product will meet your needs.

4. QUANTITY TO ORDER:

Estimate the area and volume to be treated. This can be done by pacing the dock or pier and shoreline, measuring from a land survey, or other means. Once the area is determined look at the product information for coverage and cost to determine quantity to order.
